Our guests often ask us what there is to do on Bonaire. Of course, everyone knows you can enjoy snorkeling and diving or relax on the beach, but there are also some fun, exciting, and surprising activities to try. We wanted to share firsthand what there is to do, so during the holiday, we spent a few days being tourists on our own island. And for such a small island, there’s a lot of fun to be had!
Blow Karting
Tired of lying on the beach? Blow karting is a lot of fun to do. It’s much less scary than you think and really doable for everyone. Although a strong wind can really pick up the speed… Just give it a try!
Windsurfing
Take a beginner lesson, mess around on a big board with a small sail, and after an hour in the shallow bay, everyone will be able to stand and surf a little. And the best part of the island and bay comes for free with the experience!
Swimming in Caves
Exciting, sometimes a bit cramped, and don’t wear your newest clothes. You’ll need some courage and a decent level of fitness for this, but swimming in the caves is definitely worth it. Go with a guide, and you’ll see Bonaire from a completely different perspective.
Feeding Donkeys
Buy some carrots at the entrance, let the kids sit in the pickup bed, and feed the donkeys. And if you don’t want a lick on your face, be sure to keep the window closed. Don’t forget to visit the lookout tower!
Outdoor Movie Night
A breeze in your hair, occasionally looking up at the stars, and enjoying the latest movies from your garden chair. It’s a different experience than being crammed into a theater, and it’s a really fun way to spend an evening!
Kayaking in the Mangroves
Tied with blow karting for first place in our favorites is kayaking in the mangroves. Not only is it a beautiful environment to paddle through, but snorkeling among the mangrove forests is a unique experience. You’ll see so many different things compared to snorkeling from the beach, and I highly recommend it!
