On the last day of our holiday we speak to the real estate agent. We hint that we are interested in Joke’s property and mention a target amount. Three days later, while we are still recovering from our jet lag, we receive an email that Joke wants to accept the target price. Whoa…wait, now it’s going really fast!
Trankilo
In the back of our minds we keep the thought that this should not become an unprepared ‘I’m leaving’ – we will be home again for Easter – story. We’ll let the proposal sink in for a moment. First we know what the renovation costs will be and submit our business plan to the bank, then we can say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ more confidently. It sounds easy and should be clear within a few weeks, we think with our Dutch mentality. It turns out to be a little calmer than we are used to. Trankilo (Papiamento for relaxed) is the magic word, we really have to get used to it. Quite difficult when you are so impatient and just want to know. NOW!
Fingers crossed for a good outcome
After a few months there is more clarity from the contractor, we can move forward with that. However, the banks are now also waiting and the broker indicates that there are more interested parties. It’s all quite stressful. We have now really set ourselves up to go and keep our fingers crossed that it will work out. There is good news at the beginning of September! The bank wants to invest and we have reached an agreement with the conditions of the purchase contract.
